The annual event of the town recital was held at the community hall adjacent to my office. Some of the staff members were showing their performance and I joined. There were several people in the hall who regularly visit my hospital. To my surprise, some patients, who are always modest or shy in my consultation room, were actually bold. Anyway, I had a lot of fun.
A patient in his late nineties consulted me with a big bullet. It was his regular consultation. After that, he started to talk about his bullet.
He had been on the Chinese front during the Great East Asian War as a maintenance personnel of railroads. The bullet was U.S.-made and what he brought back from the Chinese continent. Gunpowder was already removed and it was not dangerous, but I felt uneasy as I hadn't seen such a big bullet before.
How do you select wines when you buy one in a liquor store? Most people will see its label and price, but it's not easy to know if a wine of your choice is really good to your tongue. My way is to buy one after trying it. A tasting was held today by a wine importer, Weinhaus Gerhardt K.K., and I joined in. My salesperson's talk or advice is always really fun and I've bought wines from him for these past 5 years. I bought 24 bottles this time for the next 6 months. When I came to buy wines from him, I bought 6 bottles for 6 months, and it was enough, but when I bought 12 bottles the next year, those disappeared in 6 months, then I bought 18 bottles for the next 6 months. Those also disappeared in 6 months, so I bought 24 this time. It's only on some special occasions that I drink these wines, but my stock of wines ended up to be known to my friends, who look like hyenas (grin). That's why my purchase volume increased.
My house is located near the biggest nature park in my hometown. The sky was brilliant today and I went out for a walk in the park. The tree of my city is camellia and more than a hundred camellias are planted in an area in the park, which is called "Camellia Land". Wandering in the park, I felt that spring was surely coming to my city.
International trips are one of my hobbies and during trips I make it a rule to visit local markets to see how the people live in the area. I often compare food or its price with Japanese ones at the market. I have no exact data, but I feel that more than twice as many kinds of pre-packaged food are laid out on the shelves in Japan's supermarkets than those in other countries which I have visited. These foods are easy to cook by just pouring hot water, or being put in microwaves, which might not be called "cooking". My routine isn't controlled by the clock and I often have no lunch time due to the consultation of surging patients. Pre-packaged and ready-to-eat food are really handy in such hectic days.
