I'm going to write about the autonomous cruise control system of the SLK200, following the last entry.
The average Japanese cars are equipped with the cruise control system, which maintains a constant speed. On the other hand, the collision-avoidance system is installed even in the 660cc small cars. This system always monitors the distance from the car in front and puts the brakes on the car if your car was too close to the car in front.
Taking a step forward, the most up-to-date cars have a function, which is called "autonomous cruise control or "radar cruise control". It keeps the distance between cars constant. Under the control of this function, your car follows the car ahead of you autonomously. If the car in front of you speeded up, your car would follow it as if your car is connected with it by an invisible chain. On the contrary, if the car slows down and stops, your car would follow keeping a suitable distance with it. In other words, you could be free from the operation of the gas and brake pedals. I used this system both in the congested streets and highways and realized the efficacy of the system. It was wonderful and useful for relieving the fatigue from the long driving. I'm going to examine the equivalent system of other car manufacturers and replace my car next year.
