I've already written about nursing units which were comprised of schoolgirls in their late teens. Most nursing students had lived their miserable days in the war, and the most miserable and heavily smashed unit was the Himeyuri unit, which is now sometimes called "Lily Corps".
They were chased up by the enemy to the seashore. They were lastly cornered here in the picture and killed themselves. A stone tablet, on which students' and their teachers' names were carved, was embedded into a big rock. They were also victims of the war. We observed a brief silence in honor of the students and teachers who had died there.
