My late father was a camping aficionado and took me to various places with camping gear during my childhood. It might be the reason why I like inconvenient camping trips even now. Naturally, I love luxurious hotel stays, but huddling in a cozy tent during torrential rain isn't bad, especially while sharing the untouched nature with wild animals around. However, it's tiresome to pitch and disassemble a tent for all that, particularly in the rain, and therefore, I have been thinking of getting a camper for the past two years. With a camping van, when I get tired of setting up a tent, I can sleep in the car. Heavy rain can't stop my nature as a wanderer. Japan is in the midst of the boom of motor homes now and a variety of vans are on sale. My wife and I visited a motor show of the campers in Tokyo last year. Seeing lots of camping vans, we couldn't pick one up. The bigger the car, the more equipped it is; yet, small cars can turn much more easily than big ones on narrow roads. Small car maintenance expenditure, like taxes, insurance, and fuel fees, is lower than that of big cars. Taking many points into consideration, I bought a small car of 660 cc displacement, shown in the following pictures. It has a pop-up roof, and according to its catalog, four people can sleep in the car; however, considering the space needed for various items, this car is intended for use by only two people. To reduce the initial cost, I asked the business operator to remodel the roof and install only the alternator charger. Although it's only 660 cc, it has a four-wheel-drive system and an autopilot function. My wife will use it for daily activities, such as shopping. To make a long story short, I added a special function to the normal family car. It came to my house on May 15th and is currently undergoing remodeling.
