An Accidental Death

　　A staff member of my office passed away on Apr. 23rd. The news about her traffic accident came to me two hours after the accident, saying that she was unconscious and was transferred to the tertiary medical center. All in all, in Japan, hospitals are classified into three categories; primary, secondary and tertiary medical facilities. The primary is for everyday illnesses and injuries, the secondary is for people who need major surgeries and/or medical treatment, and the tertiary is for people who are in critical condition and need the highest-level treatment. She was transferred to the tertiary from the scene by the judgement of the rescue crew. It reflected the seriousness of her condition.
　　When I stayed in the office that night, I got the news of her death late from a nurse at their station in the ward. She seemed to come into contact with a car which had tried to pass her small motorcycle. I attended the "otsuya" on the next day's evening, which literally means "throughout night" and probably corresponds to "wake" in English. Some of the bereaved would stay overnight with her and her body would be cremated tomorrow, on Apr 25th. I don't have words for describing the appearance of her husband.
　　I decided to write down about her death for the memory of one kind and industrious nurse. May her soul rest in peace.
