I went to Yasukini Shrine once and I felt that it did have a strange atmosphere, but that may have been because many people from the Japanese National Party were gathered there, and they seemed rather intimidating. However, that may just have been my perception as I would assume that being a foreigner, they wouldn't want me there. Anyway, that aside, I have to agree that I don't really see why there is such a big issue made about the PMs visit every year and it frustrates me that what may have happened in the war is still being brought up now. Japan has been a country of peace for a long time now. It seems nothing good can come from hanging onto and raking up the past all the time.

I hope you don't mind me sharing my opinion. They are beautiful ribbons and I didn't know about the abductees, that is terrible. I truly hope they soon return safely.
