I belong to the Matsuyama Chuo Lions Club. The Lions Club year commences on July 1st each year and ends on June 30th of the following year. At the beginning of this Lions' year, a new activity was picked up, which was the collection and recycling of unneeded glasses for the sake of people in the developing world. Every club members was told to collect them around his or her own environment. The following picture shows the poster, which has been raised in my office, asking patients to offer unnecessary glasses regardless of their power. Up to the end of the year 2014, nearly 600 pairs of glasses have been collected.
In Japan, naturally, glasses are adjusted to the wearer's eyes. What should they do with these glasses? Probably, I think, they will wear them, putting up with some unadjusted matters.
We, the club members, polished glasses and sent them to Australia, where the glasses from all over the world are to be classified and sent to the last destination. If people who receive one of them would be thankful, it's our pleasure.
