East Coast of the Izu Peninsula

　　The west coast of the Izu Peninsula is studded with several hot spa towns, all of which are famous across the country. This area is well-known also as one of the health resorts due to its mild climate. Sagami Bay is in front of the coast and those towns are rich in fresh sea food. Lots of people are inclined to stay for some time. In the central area of the peninsula, there are some tourist spots associated with a Nobel Prize for literature laureate, Yasunari Kawabata, but I passed them and headed to Shimoda City.

伊豆半島の東海岸にはいくつもの温泉町が点在する。また温暖な気候に恵まれ保養地としても知られている。目の前は相模湾。新鮮で美味しい魚介類にも恵まれた土地柄だ。その景色を見ながら南下した。伊豆半島中央部には文豪川端康成につながる観光名所があるが、ここは次回の旅にまわしてまずは下田へ向かった。
